Tuesday Thingers: Cataloging (Or, Montgomery Ward Meets LibraryThing!)

This week's question: Cataloging sources. What cataloging sources do you use most? Any particular reason? Any idiosyncratic choices, or foreign sources, or sources you like better than others? Are you able to find most things through LT's almost 700 sources?

I use Amazon the most -- 385 of my currently 424 books were cataloged from Amazon. Amazon.co.uk comes in second with 19 (I think these are mostly my Doctor Who tie-in novels) followed by the Library of Congress with 12. I've never been unable to find something with LT's cataloging sources, so hats off to Tim and Abby.

  1. I'm an Amazon-ian, too. :-p

I'm jealous! You're reading Joy of Spooking! I want one :-D

  2. TheKoolAidMom: I don't want to give you more cause for envy, but oh, The Joy of Spooking is just fantastic! One of my favorites for the year so far, and definitely my favorite for YA lit. It's the kind of book that I'll want to curl up with the next time there's a thunderstorm at night, or pull out to read on Halloween -- basically anytime I want something deliciously creepy and fun.

  3. Just you wait for that day you have something obscure and have to hand enter it. You'll feel like you've reached a new level of geekiness. Or book obsession.

  4. Ditto the Amazon thing, what the heck did I do before Amazon? I even do a large portion of my Christmas shopping there, mostly because I hate to actually walk into a store and shop. I don't know any other husband though, who can say, "My wife got my new metal cut-off electric saw from Amazon!"

  5. Same here, I use Amazon pretty much exclusively. It's so thorough and most of my library is fairly new - it almost always turns up the right match for my ISBN.

  6. Hey Ruth - so glad you are enjoying Joy of Spooking! It is one that I too will reread many a time.

Alisha you know I would have loved to send everyone a copy - if only!
