Sunday Salon: The Week Ahead

The Sunday
This Sunday, instead of looking back on the previous week, I’m looking forward to the coming week.

On Monday, Douglas Carlton Abrams, the author of The Lost Diary of Don Juan, will be stopping in as a guest blogger. Look for my review of his book on Friday, September 19, 2008.

Monday also marks the beginning of Book Bloggers Appreciation Week. It will run until Friday.

I’ll be having three special BBAW giveaways this week. Check back on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the giveaway posts. (This is in addition to my ongoing giveaway for The Keepsake by Tess Gerritsen, which ends just after Book Blogger Appreciation Week.) I’ll announce the winners of all three of these giveaways on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 11:59 PM EST. Here's a sneak peek at what I'll be offering.

For my giveaways, I decided to share my love of young adult literature, so I picked three of my favorite series. My first giveaway will start on Monday. I'll be giving away brand new paperback copies of the first three books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters and The Titan's Curse.

On Wednesday, I’ll start a giveaway for the complete Sally Lockhart Mysteries series by Phillip Pullman: The Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, The Tiger in the Well and The Tin Princess, also brand new in paperback.

On Friday, my final giveaway will feature the first two Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. These are also brand new paperback copies.

So, what's going on in your corner of the blogosphere? Getting ready for Book Blogger Appreciation Week? Catching up on some reviews? A little bit of both?

  1. You are going to be very busy. I may try to enter your contest with the Harry Potter books. Our book club is reading the first Harry Potter book in November. I hope I can remember.

  2. Ruth, I'm looking forward to the guest post by Adams, and your review of the book. I'm hosting him in October, so I'll be reading the book in a few weeks.

Great giveaways! I absolutely loved The Lightning Thief.

  3. My son loves those Rick Riordan books. We just got his new one The 39 Clues which looks like fun, too.

  4. I am repeating what Traci wrote. Jimmy loves Rick Riordan. He just got in that last one this weekend, I think. My kids read more than I do, so it's hard to keep!

  5. Oh, very exciting! I've listened to the first two Sally Lockheart books, and have been meaning to get to the next ones in the series. I've also heard so much about the Rick Riordan books that I'd love a chance to read them.

  6. Oh, lots going on! I don't have quite as much going on...I'm super stoked for BBAW though. Such fun stuff!

I guess the only thing I'm looking forward too is my Charity Project I'm working on with First Book. Details can be found on the on the right hand side, so definitely check it out!

  7. I am a book cover junkie, I love original, creative or just pretty designs, and those Sally Lockhart Mysteries covers are gorgeous!

Hope you have a great Sunday :)

  8. Very generous giveaways, Ruth! My kids will be checking back ... LM10 LOVES Rick Riordan's books

  9. I've been dealing with lots of rain here in suburban Chicago. Finally dry -- and the sun is out! It's beautiful and we did NOT flood, thank goodness. Two things -- first of all, I read E. George's "A Great Deliverance" years ago and really, really enjoyed it. She's been a favorite ever since (though a few of her books have disappointed me, I must say.) Second, in terms of what I've been reading, interestingly, given both Ike and Illinois' recent rains, I finished Tsunami by Gordon Gumpertz. This book was so real -- I was glad I finished it BEFORE it started to rain! Great plotting, great characters -- very enjoyable.
