Tuesday Thingers: So It's Very Shrewd to Be Very, Very Popular Like Me

This week's question:
Popular this month on LT: Do you look at this list? Do you get ideas on what to read from it?

Have you read any of the books on the list right now? Feel free to link to any reviews you've done as well.

Oh dear, now I have that song from Wicked stuck in my head. I look at the "Popular This Month" list fairly often, although it's more incidental than intentional. I'll usually look at it when I'm looking at my LT home page, which is a few times a week. I don't know that I get recommendations from the list, since I've usually heard about most (if not all) of the popular books via other sources before they make the list.

I have 8 of the 10 books on the current list:
1. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
2. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicky Myron
3. Nation by Terry Pratchett
4. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
6. American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
7. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
8. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski
10. Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland

The sad thing? I haven't read any of them yet. I only received one of these (Any Given Doomsday) as an advance reading copy, so I'd consider other seven to be pleasure reading, which has been taking a backseat to review reading lately. I was reading Brisingr in September until someone completely spoiled the book for me and I lost interest in it. I'll pick it up again once I've forgotten some of the details.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
has been calling to me lately, though, so I think that may be the book I pick up next.

  1. WOW! u got 80% of it... that would definitely give me a HIGH!

  2. I am impressed! I only currently have one, and I haven't even read it yet...

  3. Oh yeah, you need to read Guernsey.

  4. I love POPULAR! I have the Wicked soundtrack in my car and play the it all the time - much to my hubby's delight :) I was intrigued after reading your post at Boston Bibliophile's page.

  5. That's one reason that I've cut back on requesting or accepting ARCs. I really just want to read for pleasure, not because I feel obligated. And yes, you do really need to read "Guernsey" - I've been practically forcing it on strangers in bookstores!

  6. I thought Guernsey was calling to me!

  7. Wow - very, very popular!! I've heard great things about Guernsey, but haven't gotten my hands on a copy yet.

    :) Wendi

    Here's my

  8. Very very impressive. I do have two of them in my TBR but haven't read either of them yet. And now I have added more to the pile!

  9. I own or have wishlisted 7 of them but only read Graveyard Book. Guernsey will be my next up to read.

  10. Nice that you own so many- gives you a nice selection to choose from but I am happy you are going to try Guernsey :D

  11. Yes, Guernsey is in my to be read next stack...I have heard great things about it. You must have more books laying around your house than I do!!!

  12. Wow!..at least you have the books TO read!! ...you'll get to them sometime ;-)

  13. Allison, I tend to stock up on books during the summer and fall so I have plenty of reading material during the winter. I hate snow and have little desire to go slogging through it, even if my destination is a bookstore!

Julie, I'm starting to run out of places to put them all. I bought a huge bookcase this summer, and it's almost full...

Icedream, I can't wait to read Guernsey. I've seen so many glowing reviews, it sounds like it's going to be a real treat!

BookZombie, I've read the first chapter of The Graveyard Book (it was incredibly difficult to put down!) and I know I'm going to love it.

Ms. Bookish, I love discovering new books. Which ones did you add to your TBR pile?

Wendi, I was surprised to see that I had that many. And most of them I've had for awhile, so I guess I have pretty popular taste?

Caite, I think it's calling to both of us! I'm so eager to read it.

JLS Hall, I know what you mean. I enjoy most of the ARC's that I read, and I love discovering new authors that I might not have known about otherwise, but sometimes it's just fun to sit back with a book and not have to worry whether I'll have it finished by its release date. Guernsey will be next up for me. (And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who gives recommendations to strangers in bookstores!)

Nely, I'm not really a big fan of musicals, but I adore The Wizard of Oz. The songs from Wicked are so catchy.

BermudaOnion, I really enjoyed your review of Guernsey. I'll be back to share my thoughts once I've read it!

Lenore and Veens, I wasn't expecting to have so many of them. The last time I really looked at the list, I think I had 2 or 3.
