Tuesday Thingers: Widget Love

This week's question:
Blog Widgets. Do you use them? Do you have them on your blog? Do you know what I'm talking about? :-) A blog widget is that list of books "From my LibraryThing" and such, that you'll sometimes see on someone's sidebar. If you use it, do all of your books show up or do you have it set to only show certain books? Do you have a search widget, which would allow your blog readers to search your library? Have you ever made a photomosaic of your book covers? You can find widgets and photomosaic information on the "Tools" tab in LibraryThing.

I have two LibraryThing widgets in my sidebar, one that shows random books from my library, and another that features the books I'm currently reading. Both of these are tag-based widgets, the first picks up books that are tagged "blog", which indicates that it's something I have reviewed for the blog or will be reviewing for the blog, and the second picks up books tagged "currently reading". I've thought about adding a search widget and making a photomosaic but haven't done either.

Missed my last post? I reviewed Oblivious by Cyndia Depre.

  1. I have a little Early Reviewers widget, but that's it for LT

  2. I'm not sure I could do the currently reading thing. I'd forget to change it on LT. Do you use a tag for that or the currently reading check box?

  3. I'm definitely considering adding a currently reading or recently added widget - I really like yours with the big covers. I will have to think about this!

  4. BermudaOnion: I have one of those as well, but forgot to mention it in my post.

Michele: I have a tag system for my library: read, unread and currently reading. So when I start a new book, I change its tag from unread to currently reading, then when I'm finished, from currently reading to read. I like being able to keep track of how much of my library I've read. (At the moment I have about 100 more unread books than read...sigh.)

Meghan: I love the big covers. They're really eye catching -- I've caught myself just idly staring at that widget when I'm reading books with pretty covers. (I love, love, love the cover art for Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos, one of the books in the sidebar now.)

  5. I like the currently reading covers too, but I'm with Michele - I would forget to change it. I have some small widgets on my sidebar.

  6. There are so many fun widgets out there. I have a couple, but feel like there's so much more I want to learn about.

  7. I like the idea of the 'currently reading' ...all that changing of tags just seems like something I would forget and then people would wonder why I was still reading that same book...
