The Sunday Salon: Finding My Bearings

The Sunday

I've always thought blogging was a lot like riding a bike. Once you've learned how to do it, you never really forget. For the most part, after two years of being away from book blogging, I would say the bicycle analogy rings true. That's not to say transitioning back into the blogging world this week hasn't had a few bumps along the way.

Blogger and Twitter are both different than they were two years ago, which is only to be expected. I got used to Blogger fairly quickly. While Twitter seems pretty intuitive, I still find myself looking for the "Like" button occasionally. (That could be more an indication of my perhaps unhealthy familiarity with Facebook than a fish-out-of-water feeling with Twitter, though.) When I logged in to Google Reader I was greeted with, "Surprise! We're not going to exist anymore!" which left me scrambling for a RSS reader. I settled on Feedly and have been playing around with that a bit this week. Last but not least, I re-claimed my blog at Technorati since my old domain name expired. (Blog owners: If you have any older links to my blog, could you please make sure they are now directing to http://www.BookishRuth.NET ? Visitors: The Bookish Ruth RSS feed address has also changed. Please click here to make sure you're subscribed to the new feed. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience!)

I suspect I'll be doing a lot of blog "house-keeping" over the next few weeks as I continue to get settled in to blogging again. It's lovely to be back, though. I'm enjoying every second of working on the blog. It's also wonderful to get caught up with my favorite bloggers -- I've missed you all!

I have a relaxing afternoon of reading ahead of me. I'm hoping to finish A Test of Wills by Charles Todd either tonight or tomorrow. Tomorrow is more likely, since Anna Karenina on DVD beckons tonight. I have two appointments tomorrow afternoon that will probably garner me a lot of waiting room reading time.

  1. Welcome, welcome, welcome back, Ruth. We sincerely missed seeing you here. I'm still plugging away at Sherlock Holmes, slowly but surely. Some day maybe I'll finish all of the stories. :)

  2. Thanks to Bryan for linking to your re-launch post, and I've updated by feed subscription. I'm sure you'll be re-acclimated very soon!

  3. We were taking blogging breaks at about the same time--I came back in January. Glad you're back. I so know what you mean about wanting a "like" button for Twitter!

  4. Hi Ruth,

I'm delighted to meet you! I'm here by Bryan's referral and look forward to getting to know you (followed on Twitter too!)

I blog at Create With Joy - hope you'll stop by for a visit!

  5. Thanks to Bryan I am a new follower of the blog and I think we had already connected on Twitter a few days ago! Looking forward to reading!!
